Growing up in Westchester I used to believe that the ultimate date night meant heading to New York City to enjoy the myriad of restaurants, bars, and activity centers that the boroughs have to offer. That also meant tolls, parking hassle, and city prices. If you’re the active type or just someone looking do something a little different than the usual bar scene, there didn’t seem to many local choices in Westchester.

Allow me to offer an actual alternative: Grand Prix New York! Grand Prix opened in Mount Kisco in 2008 and has been steadily growing and enhancing their offerings of fun since. Recently my friends and I went over to GPNY to check it out. Right away I decided I preferred their 900 space free parking lot over pricey Manhattan garages. When I got inside the first thing I noticed with a massive indoor go-kart track. GPNY houses a 22 unit immersive racing simulator, a full service 19 lane bowling alley and a giant interactive arcade.

We checked in for scheduled go-kart races first. Before suiting up, we got the low down on how to get the most out of our laps and learned about the karts. These adult racing machines can get you up to 40mph on the straights. Wrestling them around the track was fun, exhausting and majorly entertaining. Experienced racers will enjoy being able to show up and race while, less seasoned drivers will appreciate the karts’ simple controls.

After a couple of rounds of racing, we were all thirsty and headed over to the restaurant area, which features a fully stocked bar with a talented and capable staff. They offer quality cocktails, wine, beer, and soft drinks for the kids and people waiting to race. I was pleased to see one of my favorite local beers, Captain Lawrence, on tap.

The bowling lanes at GPNY’s Spins features sleek modern décor, full sized projection screens and a concert quality sound system. We reserved our lanes in the VIP section, which is made even more comfortable with couches and a dedicated server.

Bowling and karting can raise an appetite, so we ordered some snacks. The restaurant has a full complement of sit-down entrees, appetizers, sandwiches and pizzas. We chose to go on the healthy side picking veggie, pita and hummus appetizers and a little less healthy with some super tasty wings. All the food was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the Thai Sweet Chili sauce for the wings!

After eating our fill and bowling until our arms were sore, we decided to call it a night. As we were getting ready to go, we realized we’d been there for almost four hours! I couldn’t believe how much time flew during this an unexpectedly awesome experience right in the middle of Westchester.
