Speed Secret – Leaning To Improve Balance
Racing NewsSpeed Secret – Leaning to improve balance.

A number of conditions can affect the way a kart handles: track temperature, tire temperature, tire wear, seat position, and driver weight, to name a few. During a race (especially an enduro), compensating for these changes to improve the balance will greatly improve lap times and consistency.

The axle of the kart that has the most weight will have the most grip. So if you have a kart that understeers, lean forward to give better front-end grip; if you have a kart that oversteers, lean back to help stick the rear end. Not only can you use this technique lap to lap, but also corner to corner. Since not every corner has grip consistent to the others, this will help you make minor adjustments to get more out of the kart, and therefore a better lap time.
