F1 Boston Karting Start Up Signs Development Contract
Facility NewsCabot Bigham, 16, of Weston, has signed a karting coaching and professional development contract with Brian Keck of Keck Racing Development (KRD) in Sacramento, Calif.

He currently participates in the WKA East (World Karting Association) nationals as a member of the karting team CRG America, based out of East Bridgewater, Mass.

In 2011, Bigham began to participate in the WKA National Manufacturers Cup series, which takes place on six rigorous tracks throughout the U.S. each year, starting with Daytona, Fla. in December. It is widely regarded as one of the most challenging series in karting.

Bigham raced with three-time Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon in Indianapolis for the Manufacturers Cup just three weeks before Wheldon’s tragic death in Las Vegas at the Indy Car finals.

Bigham races the TAG class, which consists of drivers from the ages of 14 to 29 on several engines, including Leopard, Rotax, Comet, Vortex and Sonik – all two stroke engines ranging from 100cc to 125ccs.

Signing with Keck Racing Development allows Bigham to also participate in the WKA West racing series and to train on various tracks.

On Aug. 3 to 5, Bigham had a dramatic race with a last to first place run in Monterey, Calif., for the WKA West Nationals.

Bigham began his racing career at the age of 9, racing REMO karts at F1 Boston. He quickly graduated to outdoor karting, where the courses are generally 1 mile with several turns in open karts that reach speeds of 80 miles per hour.

All current professional drivers on the “Road to Indy” got their start in some form of karting. Bigham’s ultimate goal is to follow them in their path and mimic their success.

In addition to racking up podium wins in karting, Bigham is an honor roll student in the 10th grade at Weston High School.
