Unser Racing Denver, CO Round 3 Recap
Racing NewsRound 3 Recap

There were plenty of new talented drivers showing up for the 3rd round of the Rockstar winter league series this past week. Return league drivers showed up as well, hungry for a qualifying spot into the A main for the first time. All participants were hoping to gain some valuable points as well.

The Fastest qualifying time was held by a new driver to leagues; Brian C. with a 20.460!

We went right off with the B Main after qualifying had finished. With Jace H. at the back of the field, everyone was waiting to see what would happen. Not being able to make an easy pass on the first driver, left a lot of ground to make up before he would be able to clam a B main win for himself. The first 6 laps were down before the first lead change would take place. Also on that lap Bob S. got into Greg P., spinning both drivers out after the finish line. This putting Bob S., and Greg P., back to the last two positions and out of a qualifying spots. Jace H. was all over Chase T. for the lead, forcing him to drive a defensive line on the track. Jon R. took advantage of this and closed the gap 1st and 2nd. Jace H. would finally make the pass for the lead leaving Chase T. and Jon R. to battle for 2nd.

Jon R. was able to make the pass for 2nd on lap 16 but unable to make it stick as Chase T. would regain the 2nd with 8 laps left and hold on for a 2nd place finish.
Jon R. would cross the line in 3rd. While all the attention was at the front, the real action was back from the final transfer spot. Where Bob S. and Greg P. were catching Bobby S. who was holding the golden ticket and final transfer spot to the
A main. The two drivers were using each other to find speed and turning almost .04 fast then Bobby S in 4th.

It was just a matter of time before they caught him but would there be enough time left for a clean pass. With 7 laps left until Bob S. and Greg P. would be left on the side lines for the A main, Greg P. snuck his way by. Greg P. never looked back and
clammed his first ever spot in the A main. Greg P was awarded the Unser Hard Charger award with his will to over come an early spin out and charge back to over take a driver late in the race for a spot in the A main.

With the A main about to start we knew this would be an all out barn burner. The top 3 qualifying spots were held all by drivers under the age of 18; Will O., Jesse R., and Brian C. Will O., and Brian C., were in contention for the Rookie of the night, with having less then 10 drives at Unser. With your Rockstar winter league points leader starting in 7th spot, gave great insight that we might not see a repeat winner for the 3rd time during leagues.

The main was also littered with first time drivers to the A main, Nicole B., Jereme W., Ryan M., to name a few. The first lap was off and Jesse R. wanted to do
his best to get around Brain C. early and open up a lead. His pass was made on the entrance to the split on the first lap, and seem to be pretty aggressive yet was not flagged for it and over took the top spot. There was a nice 4 way battle for 7th
between Jon R., Jereme W., Ryan M., and Chase T., brewing early on in the race. Chase T. would make the pass for 7th on lap 14. On lap 16 Jon R. wanted to keep Chase T. in sight, so went for the pass on Ryan M. The pass he attempted left
Ryan M. spun out and Jon R. received a black flag for it, letting Chase T. gap out a lead on the battle.

Another black flag was giving out later to a different driver; Brian C., which aloud Chase T. to close the gap and latter make the pass. Chase T. has shown great improvement though out leagues and with a 4th place finish sits 3rd in points. With 11 laps left Jesse R. had pull out an 3 second lead, after Jace H. had made to much contact with 2nd place and was black flagged for it. As long as Jesse R. could keep his nose clean he would be a new, and first time winner for the series. With two corners to go Will O. was in 2nd, which he had held for most of the race. Will O. left the door open, setting up a little wide, H. took the open door to slide his front nose in. Coming around the final corner Jace H. secured the pass and finish 2nd. Will O. took 3rd place and won the Rookie of the night with a impressive 3rd place in the A main with not many drives under his belt at Unser. He very well could win the final round of the series.

With 3 rounds down and 1 more till we crown the first ever Rockstar Winter League champion, Jace H. has a 9 point lead over Jesse R. As long as Jace H. finishes 8th or better in the A main he will be the 2011 Rockstar Winter League Champion.

With the final round sure to bring all the big name drivers out, as well as a few fast rookies, anything can happen!
