2011 CIKI - IKWC Qualifier this weekend!

February 16, 2011 - Indoor Kart World Championship competition begins tomorrow in Como, Italy, with the CIKI - Campionato Italiano Kart Indoor (Italian Indoor Kart Championship). The Italian National Championship is an official World Championship Qualifying event, and the top 3 drivers of 2011 will win a sponsored trip to the Indoor Kart World Championship in July.

A total of 50 drivers will battle at this year's Italian Indoor Kart Championship, which much like the World Championship is a series of races run back to back over continuous days. The stage is the Mokart circuit in Como, just north of Milano.

The Italians drivers will have a true World Championship caliber challenge at this year's Italian Indoor Kart Championship. They will be able to test their skills agains some of the top drivers in the world, as Belgians Kenny Geldhof, Gregory Laporte, and Justine Vanwynsberghe will be on the grid in Como. Laporte is the 2008 Indoor Kart World Champion, Vanwynsberghe has twice won the Women's Category at the Indoor Kart World Championship, and Geldhof is the current Indoor Kart World Champion.

CIKI organizers hope the Italian Indoor Kart Championship will help identify truly talented Italian drivers who can realistically aim at victory at the 2011 Indoor Kart World Championship.

The Italian Championship will consist of 5 sets of races for what looks like 3 groups of 16/17 karts, with the racing set to begin on February 17 and continue through Feb 20. It is currently unclear if online live-timing will be available.
