Autobahn Indoor Speedway, a Jacksonville, Fla.,-based operator of go-kart tracks, is coming to Birmingham.
The company will open it's first Alabama indoor electric go-kart race track at 5960 Greenwood Pkwy. in Bessemer in June, according to Autobahn partner Bill Harris.
"We're very excited to be coming to Birmingham," Harris said in an interview with the BBJ.
Autobahn inked a 53,000-square-foot lease at the Bessemer location.
Jack Brown of Graham & Co. represented the tenant, and Merrimon Epps of Barber Cos. Inc. represented the landlord in the lease.
Harris said Autobahn plans a substantial capital investment in the facility in order to build the track and purchase the vehicles. Harris said the go-karts go for around $10,000 each.
"They are very fast," Harris said, adding the track can be used for parties, corporate events or just races between friends.
Harris said an Autobahn track will open in Memphis in March and there is a plan for a location in Virginia soon. The other track, the company's first, is in Baltimore. |
