This Week’s Speed Secret: Leaning to Improve Cornering Speed
Racing NewsLeaning to improve cornering speed. We said before that the axle of the kart that has the most weight will have the most grip. Likewise, the side of the kart with the most weight will have the most grip as well. So, to give your kart that extra bit of grip through corners, lean to the outside when cornering.

Leaning can also help with exit speed. Remember that karts have a solid rear axle that wants to bind when the wheel is turned. Leaning to the outside un-weights the inner rear wheel, allowing it to slip a bit, which creates less axle bind and more acceleration. If you’re on the heavier side, you can use this technique to compensate for the kart being less willing to pull you out of the corner.
