Grand Prix New York Makes Significant Economic Impact
Facility NewsRegion’s Premier Racertainment Venue Creates Jobs, Supports Local Vendors

Since its inception in 2007, Grand Prix New York (GPNY) has grown from an indoor go-karting facility to the area’s leading indoor entertainment and team-building venue, and its positive economic impact has soared along with its reputation.

Grand Prix draws both fun-seekers and corporate professionals to Westchester and Mt. Kisco. Of the 200,000 customers who visited the facility in 2011, 60% came from outside the county, including Fairfield County, CT and New York City.

As GPNY has increased its offerings, adding a Simulated Racing Room and expanding to a full state-of-the-art Arcade in the last year, its workforce has also grown. The company, which started out with 40 employees when it opened its doors, now employees 80 people, with an annual payroll of $1.8 million. Most GPNY workers live within 20 miles of Mt. Kisco.

In addition to creating new jobs and adding to the city and state tax bases, GPNY’s growth is also good news for its vendors, 98% of which are in Westchester County. The company bought more than $3.8 million worth of supplies and services in the last 12 months.

“From businesses such as Grand Prix, you get a double booster rocket of economic activity,” stated Laurence Gottlieb, Westchester County’s Director of Economic Development. “The first stage of the rocket comes from the job creation and capital investment. However, you get an additional boost from Grand Prix because it’s also a year-round regional tourist and corporate retreat destination, which means visitors from outside the county come into Westchester to spend their dollars.”

GPNY hosts more than 50 charitable events each year, and has raised thousands of dollars for not-for-profits in Westchester. GPNY has also donated $200,000 worth of products and services to charities and fundraisers since 2007.

“We’ve shown consistent growth each year so far and we hope to continue on this path, creating more jobs, patronizing our local suppliers, and supporting area not-for-profits,” said GPNY Vice President and Co-founder Nat Mundy. “Even when we were just starting out, we felt it was important to give back; it’s very rewarding to do so in a more significant way as we grow.”
