On Track Karting - "The Karting Experience" in Connecticut
Facility NewsOn Track Karting hosts one of the longest and fastest indoor kart tracks on the East Coast. Over 1800 feet long and 20 feet wide, our track has plenty of room for pure wheel-to-wheel racing action. In addition to arrive-and-drive racing, we offer competitive racing leagues, individual and team endurance events, birthday parties, and corporate outings. From our fast straight-a-ways to our tight turns, even the most skilled racers will be challenged. Our large 7,500 square foot build-out features meeting/event rooms, an arcade, a snack bar, and lots of viewing areas to watch the racing action. Television monitors throughout the building display lap times of all the drivers on the track so friends and family can monitor their progress!

Before hitting the track for the first time, all drivers attend a comprehensive safety briefing and orientation session. Our 8-minute briefing video covers basic kart operation, proper use of safety equipment, our driver communication systems (which includes signage, lighting, and flagging), and important rules and regulations. Attending this session will help ensure you get the most out of your experience on the track.

When it is time for your race, you will head to the equipment areas, where On Track Karting supplies you with all the safety gear you need to race (of course, patrons are always welcome to bring their own equipment, provided it complies with all of our safety regulations). Drivers are required to wear a full-face helmet with integrated shield (motorcross-type helmets with goggles are not acceptable) and a neck brace. If you use one of our helmets, you will be required to wear a head sock (one will be issued to you free with your membership; replacements can be purchased for $2). In addition, racing suits are available for those who wish to wear one.

After getting outfitted in all the proper safety gear, you head to the driver staging area where you will wait for your heat to be called, at which time our staff will direct you to your race kart. Our Pit Attendant will make sure your kart is properly adjusted for its driver and your safety harness is properly fastened. As soon as your group is ready, and the track is cleared from the previous heat, our Track Marshal will direct you onto the track. As you complete your first lap, you will get the green flag as you cross the start/finish line and officially begin your heat. A typical track session will run a full eight minutes, which, with all of those high-speed turns pulling about 1.5g’s or more, will feel like a workout.

To end the session, the Track Marshal will show the drivers the checkered flag as they cross the start/finish line for the last time. You will make one more trip around the track before being directed back to pit lane. Racers will exit the karts and return to the equipment room, where helmets and neck braces will be returned to the shelves and racing suit, if used, will be deposited in the bins for cleaning. Detailed race reports with all driver lap times for that heat will be available for all drivers at the registration deck. Our system will automatically highlight your fastest lap in the heat, and keep track of your best lap times. Still trying to shave another second or two off your time? Ask about our race clinics and/or private race instruction.
