Cosmic Karting At San Bernardino Raceway

Cosmic Karting; It’s Not As Crazy As It Sounds

Go to your local indoor track, turn off all the lights, hire a DJ, buy a bunch of strobe lights and invite all of Southern California to come race. Sounds like a recipe for disaster right? Wrong.

Four drivers went out to SB Raceway in San Bernardino to investigate the brand new idea and come back with a full report on what they found.

All four drivers came back with rave reviews of racing in the dark. SB Raceway had a few ingenious ideas to keep the feel of colorful yet dark racing while sufficiently lighting the walls to keep the racing safe. Rope lights lined the tops of the barriers and red, blue and green lights combined to create white lighting by the time it reached the surface. It was clear they didn’t simply hang up a few black lights and send us out, plenty of time was spent planning and executing the design.

In addition to the super cool lighting technique, a live DJ was on hand to bump plenty of bass not only in the lobby but even on track. It was definitely a new sensation to hear super loud music through turn 1 each lap that gradually faded out as the lap continued. On top of all of that, free pizza and sodas were offered to all of the drivers.

From a racers perspective, however, the best part of the night has to be the price. For $50 you get unlimited racing from 8pm to midnight. We each must have only missed two or three 10 minute sessions which added up to over three hours of racing. This left us feeling like we got our money’s worth, about five times over.

Simply put, if you are a racer you will love the amount of driving time for the cost, and if you like to have a good time you will get plenty of that for the cost too. SB Raceway gets an A+ for this new idea.
